Hello, fellow typists!
When the ABQwerty Type Writer Society was given the opportunity to set up an exhibit in the display case at Cherry Hills Public Library this month, we jumped at the chance to educate our community on the ways that typewriters remain relevant, valuable tools for creativity.
Matthew and Joe set up the display using donated typewriters and ephemera from their personal collections, along with others from John Lewis Mechanical Antiques. In total, more than 45 individual items are featured in the display, including four typewriters (Corona 3, Brother Webster XL-747, Hermes Rocket, and Corona Standard) and nine books.
You’ll also find three print wheels and ink pads for Blickensderfer typewriters, an antique "Tuch-Rite" type-teaching aid, ribbon tins, a book on speed typing written by famed speed typist Margaret B. Owen, a framed photo of QWERTY-keyboard inventor Christopher Latham Sholes, and a set of five typewriter-oil bottles.
This exhibit represents a wide variety of machines, ephemera, and books that we hope will be informative for both typists and the general public alike.
Please stop by the Cherry Hills Public Library (6901 Barstow St. NE) during the month of May to check out the exhibit (and please let your friends and family know too)!
Until next time,
-The ABQwerty Type Writer Society
